We love coloring pages around here all year round and even work them into our early reading lessons! Coloring does an incredible job reinforcing topics and often keeps fidgety kids calm during a discussion or read aloud session.

Easter is a very special time for Christians as we remember the death and burial of Jesus Christ and celebrate his miraculous resurrection! The wonder of the empty tomb can all too easily get lost in the basket of eggs, candy, and the bunny who delivers the goods.

Take heart- it is possible to enjoy playful traditions like Easter egg hunts without diminishing Christ’s wondrous defeat of sin and death! All it takes is a little intentionalality.

Help your family focus on what really matters with this free printable Easter coloring page.

Simple and sweet, it depicts Jesus carrying a lamb, along with a bible verse. John 1: 29 tells of when John the Baptist sees Jesus coming towards him and says “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”

Before you ever bust out the egg dye, read the Easter story in a children’s bible (like this one) or straight from your Bible in Luke chapters 23 and 24.

How to Use This Easter Coloring Page

Either while you read or after you’ve finished, invite your child to color this Easter coloring page.

Let them use crayons, colored pencils, washable markers, or even watercolors (consider printing on thicker paper)! Talk about what you read with questions like:

  • Which parts of the story were sad?
  • Which parts of the story were happy?
  • Why did Jesus die?
  • Why does it matter that the tomb was empty?

Keep the conversation about the risen Jesus going all through the egg dying, easter egg hunts, and baskets of goodies!

For Sunday school use, this printable is perfect for Pre-K through first grade classrooms any time during Lent or as an activity to supplement the classroom lesson on Easter morning!
