Jingle your way through addition with this simple Christmas math worksheet! Perfect for practicing addition and working backwards to find the missing number, this simple printable gives ordinary math a holiday sparkle.
This printable Christmas math worksheet mat is perfect to use with any math manipulative, but jingle bells feel extra festive! Just don’t feel like you have to go out and buy jingle bells, okay?! You could cut up little red and green pieces of construction paper or little pieces of wrapping paper or bits of ribbon. It would still feel festive!
Jingle bells are fun because they make noise and there’s a holiday song you can all sing about them together (no, I’m not referring to the one about Batman..)! They’re a great size for little fingers, but they aren’t a requirement!
How To Use This Christmas Math Worksheet
This Christmas math worksheet is specifically for addition. There are three circles- one for each part of the equation. Your child can do this in multiple ways, but we chose to laminate it and use a dry erase marker to fill in the circles.
Start with adding numbers 1-10, and once your child is comfortable with that, work your up from there!
Ask your child to grab the correct number of manipulatives for each circle. We used mini Christmas trees, jingle bells and Christmas color pom poms as our math manipulative for this activity.
Once the correct amount of manipulatives are picked, your child can count the total number to solve the equation. The correct answer can be written in the third circle. Ta-Da!
Christmas Math Worksheet Variations
If laminating isn’t your thing, try post it notes to write the numbers on and place in the circles. Another option is to use dice or playing cards as the numbers. This also helps present this activity as a game!
Kids can also use this Christmas math worksheet to “work backwards.” Give your child a total number, and only one of the numbers needed to make that total. Have your child gather the total number of manipulatives, then ask them to remove the other number you gave them from that pile.
The remaining number of manipulatives is the number needed to solve the equation! Easy peasy!
This is an important activity to help children who are learning basic addition. The more repetitions, the easier they will remember. It is also an important skill to practice. Practicing the number is important but learning the process is just as important.
Using Christmas manipualtives will help encourage children to want to play this game and activity. Children will think they are playing, when in reality they are focusing on such a basic and important skill of their lives. It is so important. As well as, as mentioned above, the fine motor skills! This Christmas Addition activity is so exciting!
